As humans, one of our favourite thing to do is to predict what the future might bring! At the start of every year, experts from different fields share insights on trends that will overtake their fields of expertise. However, creativity is fluid, an on-going conversation that takes its own course. So, in the middle of the year, we were curious to see how the predictions for ‘designs’ especially web designing has changed, been modified or defied to meet the transient market needs. Here’s digging in at the predicted design trends and what has changed since.

1. Gradients are back!

Gradients were popular once but were sidelined by flat colours. It seems like they are back with the bang in 2018. Brands have not only modified their websites according to this trend but in some cases, brands have revamped their entire brand strategy as per the gradient colour scheme. This trend was brought back by Tinder (not officially though) and Asana but it came to full force when Instagram changed its logo and modified the entire branding scheme, and then when Apple endorsed it on the launch of their iPhone X, the entire web community felt once again in love with the trend. Now every brand seems to be loving and riding this wave of gradient (2.0) scheme.

2. Bright Colors, White Space and Clean Designs

Designers are still in love with minimal and clean designs, and why not, it helps in creating a clean and versatile web design which eventually leads to better user engagement.  Due to minimal approach white and other bright colours have also gained popularity in 2018 (or we can say still remain favourite) and most of the website are now changing their colour scheme from dark colours like blue and black to white. This also helps visitor gets the message in one go and results in a higher conversation rate.

3. Custom Illustrations and Isometric Designs

It’s said “an image is worth a thousand words” and designers seem to be following this trend. Web designing has seen a lot of rapid shifts when it comes to UI. 5 year back real-life images used to rule but then suddenly flat icons came and changed the entire web UI style. A design technique transcending dimensions gained popularity as icons first and have impeccably moved into the typography too. It feels real (3 dimensional) and yet retains the flatness of 2D layouts. Classic ‘shadow and depth’ techniques have been used cleverly by designers to create uniqueness for the eye. In 2018, isometric has overpowered flat and it seems to be the new love of web designers. We’re certain that our art teachers are very happy as we are putting these techniques to good use!
